Heat and Energy Recovery Ventilators & Service in Birmingham, AL
During the more extreme seasons of summer and winter, people tend to try to seal off their home from the outside environment. Closing doors and windows makes sense when you’re trying to maintain climate control. However, it can have some negative consequences. By sealing off your home from the air outside, you eliminate the flow of fresh air into the home. That can cause your indoor air quality to drop, which creates all kinds of issues. Western Sales & Services, Inc. offers a full range of heat and energy recovery ventilator services throughout Birmingham, AL. If you need an HRV or ERV installed, repaired, maintained, or replaced, call today to schedule an appointment with one of our expert technicians.

How HRVs and ERVs Work
Heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) and energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) are systems designed to keep fresh air flowing into your home without compromising climate control. These ventilators are essentially large heat exchangers, which are connected to the home’s ductwork and have additional ductwork leading outside of the home. During operation, these ventilators allow air to flow in from the outside while cycling stale air out of the home. As the two air currents pass each other in the ventilator, they regulate each other’s temperature. This means the air that flows into the home will be roughly the same temperature as the indoor climate. The only real difference between HRVs and ERVs is that ERVs also transfer humidity levels.
Why You May Want to Install a Heat or Energy Recovery Ventilator
The main struggle of maintaining a comfortable indoor air quality during summer and winter is that if you keep all of your doors and windows closed, your indoor air quality suffers. Airborne contaminants become trapped in the home, humidity levels are thrown out of balance, etc. This makes it harder to stay comfortable, and easier to get sick. The normal solution to the stale air problem would be to open the windows and introduce some fresh air. Doing that would compromise your climate control, however.
HRVs and ERVs are designed to give you the best of both worlds. By maintaining air flow between the home and the outside environment, these systems allow you to maintain climate control without suffering any of the ill effects of allowing your air to go stale. You will notice a marked improvement in your indoor air quality after installing one of these systems.
Let Us Handle Your HRV and ERV Repair and Maintenance
Installing one of these systems takes a fair bit of work, as most homes are not already outfitted for one. It will take a bit of construction work to install the additional ducts in most cases, as well as slightly altering the ducts in your home. This is not a project you can take on yourself. You’re going to want to trust a professional to do it for you. Western Sales & Services, Inc. offers a full range of professional HRV and ERV installation services throughout Birmingham, AL.
