How Heat Pump Water Heaters Work
A heat pump water heater is an electric tank water heater, with one major difference. A heat pump water heater has an evaporator coil located on top of the storage tank, with a condenser coil located in the tank itself. During operation, the water heater evaporates refrigerant to absorb thermal energy from the air around the storage tank. It then condenses the refrigerant gas in the condenser coil to release the heat into the tank. This extra heat is used to supplement another heating coil in the tank.
Heat Pump Water Heater Installation Service in Birmingham, AL
The purpose of a heat pump water heater is to combine the energy efficiency of a tankless water heater with the capacity and durability of a tank water heater. Normally, tankless water heaters are more efficient but more easily overwhelmed due to their lack of storage. Tank water heaters, by contrast, can produce more hot water for longer but waste a lot of energy to do it. Through a hybrid water heating system, you will achieve the best of both worlds.
By relying on the ambient thermal energy present around the water heater, a heat pump water heater is able to provide just as much hot water as a tank water heater at a fraction of the energy expended. This allows it to operate at a much higher level of demand without becoming exhausted, and save you money at the same time.
Call Us for Water Heater Repair & Maintenance
Installing one of these systems is a big investment, as is the case with just about any major home system. If you want to get the best return on your investment, you should take a couple of steps to make sure that your water heater stays in good condition. First and foremost, make absolutely sure to schedule preventive maintenance for your system at least once a year. Water heater issues are subtle, and by the time you notice a problem with your system the damage may have already been done. Annual preventive maintenance allows your technician to find and fix issues before they have the chance to present much of a threat. However, preventive maintenance is not 100% effective.
There is a chance that you will develop problems with your water heater between maintenance appointments. If and when that happens, be sure to call for repairs as quickly as possible. The sooner we can get to your system and repair it, the better off your system will be.
